TEAM/PROGRAMME: Communications, Media, Advocacy and Campaigns-PDQ LOCATION:

Hargeisa, Somaliland
GRADE: 4 POST TYPE: National (Somali)
Child Safeguarding:

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
ROLE PURPOSE:

Under the supervision of the National Communications and Media Manager, and in line with Save the Children’s communications strategy, the Area Communications Coordinator will be responsible for meeting the communications needs of all Save the Children programmes in Somaliland (both Humanitarian and Development). The function will also be responsible for producing high quality, external-facing communications materials including stories, publications, videos, and photographs. The role will ensure consistent branding across Save the Children in Somaliland field offices, collection of programme stories and building staff capacity. The Function will also support the preparation and dissemination of sitreps and internal updates among others.
SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: National Communications and Media manager and administratively to the area representative

Staff reporting to this post: 1 communications officer

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Produce high quality, external-facing communications materials including stories, publications, videos, and photographs for Save the Children humanitarian and development programmes in Somaliland
Implement an annual communication plan to support the external communications objectives.
Develop and implement content gathering plans for Save the Children in Somaliland
Develop plans, action packs and materials to support high level project events and internal meetings.

Support the identification of and development of communication materials to support the achievement of programme and advocacy objectives in line with the Area program/advocacy strategy as well as in support of country level strategies.
Lead in the compilation, design, and dissemination of information and communication materials on Save the Children’s programmes in Somaliland in close cooperation with the national communications and Media manager.
Support and facilitate field visits for high level donor and media visits.
Maximise opportunities to raise the visibility and profile of donor funded projects in Somaliland in line with the country communications and donor visibility strategies
Research and monitor developments of external issues of significance to Save the Children’s programming in Somaliland (including but not limited to through media monitoring) and circulate analysis of these to relevant stakeholders.
Liaise with external editors, designers and printers to develop quality documents for Save the Children programmes in Somaliland and ensure the standardization and management of Save the Children Brand in Somaliland.
Liaise closely with Communications, photography/video teams and programme teams to ensure coordination of activities on the ground – photos and videos are captured, proper consent forms are signed, and that log lists and captions are recorded.
Support the production of the situation reports for emergency/humanitarian projects in Somaliland
Liaise with the Country Communications team to develop information products on emergency response as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media or Business Administration

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

At least 4 years of proven experience in the same or similar role
Proven experience in developing and implementing high impact communication plans.
Excellent writer, skilled at distilling large amounts of information for diverse audiences
Excellent project manager, with an ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
Creative communicator, able to develop inspiring and engaging communication products.
IT literate, experience using design packages and video editing software. Photoshop, InDesign, and Final Cut Pro preferred.
Comfortable using a DSLR cameras
Highly developed interpersonal skills, including influencing and negotiation.
Highly developed cultural awareness and able to work well in a diverse environment.
Ability to develop advertisements, and convincing messages using different ICT tools.
Demonstrable experience of operating in a similar role previously.
Fluency in Amharic and English.
